Henry Cowell Redwoods
March 9th, 2024 00:21I went out hiking up in the mountain range. It’s a lot less drastic than back home. Way humid, too. I drove up here on my own for the first time and it wasn’t half bad! Definitely not a fan of 17 though.
I didn’t realise how many people take their kids to state parks. Walking around the redwood grove was just like, flooded with little kids. It’s kind of cute, honestly, I’ve never been a big fan of kids but sometimes it’s nice to be reminded that there’s a future. Whatever.
It seems like the big venue for punks in SC is out in downtown, which is far enough I’d have to drive– if it weren’t for the METRO. The public transit here is so much more expansive here than in Burke’s Point and if I drive up to San Jose I can take the train anywhere in the Bay Area! It’s amazing.
I’ve started school, too– the one thing that is weird about Burke’s Point is just how many queer people of colour are there for a small town in actual NorCal. (You can claim that SF is NorCal all you want– it’s not.) Either way, the demographic isn’t drastically off from Santa Cruz, and I think I’ve been getting in touch with some of the people in my area. I’m glad.
