Henry Cowell Redwoods
March 9th, 2024 00:21I went out hiking up in the mountain range. It’s a lot less drastic than back home. Way humid, too. I drove up here on my own for the first time and it wasn’t half bad! Definitely not a fan of 17 though.
I didn’t realise how many people take their kids to state parks. Walking around the redwood grove was just like, flooded with little kids. It’s kind of cute, honestly, I’ve never been a big fan of kids but sometimes it’s nice to be reminded that there’s a future. Whatever.
It seems like the big venue for punks in SC is out in downtown, which is far enough I’d have to drive– if it weren’t for the METRO. The public transit here is so much more expansive here than in Burke’s Point and if I drive up to San Jose I can take the train anywhere in the Bay Area! It’s amazing.
I’ve started school, too– the one thing that is weird about Burke’s Point is just how many queer people of colour are there for a small town in actual NorCal. (You can claim that SF is NorCal all you want– it’s not.) Either way, the demographic isn’t drastically off from Santa Cruz, and I think I’ve been getting in touch with some of the people in my area. I’m glad.

Capitola Rd
January 2nd, 2024 20:11Is it stupid to name these after street names? Maybe. People don’t really look at blogs anymore, I guess. Eris would have an aneurysm if I told her about this. To be fair, though, she lived in a pretty small town. I'm in the big city now.
It’s a weird place to be. I haven't started school yet but it’s sooo much bigger than the one back in town. There’s a lot of smoke shops that we saw on the way in, too, which I've been thinking about a lot. We had to go out of town to try and get any sort of drugs or make them ourselves.
I'm going to try and explore the Santa Cruz music scene a little? It’s definitely bigger than back home, which is pretty cool, I think.
Just need to get through high school, and then I can go wherever. I'm actually starting to get excited about living here.

Moving Out
October 8th, 2023 12:39I’ve known I’d be moving for a while. Didn’t really want to write about it until now.
Fuck, I think I’m sad about it? Like I've lived here my entire life, I don't know what it’ll be like to leave. I wouldn't say I really, really love living here, but I like my friends. I like Lukah, which is the dumbest fucking sentence anyone’s every written and so teenage girl but fuck at least I’m self aware about it! I don't think I can go long distance. It’s going to be hard to tell him. It’s going to be hard to tell all of them.
And they’re going to have to find a new guitarist for the band we never came up with a name for. They’ll make new songs, and when I come back to visit in the summer they’ll play one they wrote when I was there and I can say ‘I was there for that one.’
I never got the chance to start that d&d group I was thinking about. Sorry, Daphne. you’ve always been a lot cooler than me.
I guess Santa Cruz is nice enough?
Whatever. I guess I should start thinking about packing.

Wild Plum Loop Trail
August 30th, 2023 21:42
I went hiking down by Sierra City today with Eris. She drove, since I’m still kind of new with the whole driving thing. There’s this big ass bridge that leads into the campground, and down by the river we saw someone with their dog. It was sweet.
I’m trying not to feel childish about this whole blog thing. It feels so very 2012 tumblr of me, but I’m gonna push past it. Lukah would tell me that ‘cringe culture is dead lol’ so maybe I can take a page out of his book. But I really do find it kind of cool to work on this thing. It feels more real that using like, instagram or whatever.

We saw this PCT hiker box in Sierra City! I didn’t look inside but I assume when the hikers are in the area it’s full of like, provisions, goodies, stuff like that. We ended up following some of the PCT while hiking and I wish I’d taken a picture of the sign. I’d love to hike it in it’s entirety one day, but I think I’m a bit too disabled to do that. I think I’ll just hike some segments every once in a while.
I’m really glad I got that hiking prosthesis a few months back, though. It’s way better than just putting a hiking shoe on an everyday leg.
Me and my friends are putting together a band now that school’s out (super exciting.) Eris plays bass and Rogue’s wanted to learn drums for a while now, and I’m going to try and pick up guitar again. I know Lukah’s friend plays, so maybe he can give me some pointers. Arun’s doing lead vocals, he’s fucking stoked about starting this thing up, and they’ll definitely be heading the writing efforts.
Maybe brief introductions are in order. Eris and Rogue and Arun are my friends, who are all very cool, and Lukah is my boyfriend, who is very lame. We live in a tiny ass town so we’ve all known each other for as long as I can remember.
We haven't really come up with a name for the band yet. There’s been a few ideas we’ve tossed around, but nothing’s really stuck. We don't have any songs yet, either, but we’re getting there. Maybe once we’re established enough we can play at the music festival.
I think I’ll use this blog to talk about music and bands I like, as well as other cool stuff I do. Stay tuned.
